Retin-A Micro .1%
What is Retin-A Micro?
RETIN-A is used in the treatment of acne as well as to reduce the signs
of aging. It reduces the formation of pimples and promotes quick healing of pimples
that do develope.
How does Retin-A Microgel work?
RETIN-A has effects on both the superficial and deep parts of the skin. One of
the major benefits is to decrease the effects of sunlight caused aging by increasing
the speed with which the surface cells are replaced.
- Retin-A keeps the dermas plump by causing the cells to produce more collagen.
Retin-A also turns rough skin smooth by working on the outer layer
-- the epidermis -- and removes age spots by reducing the amount of
melanin that skin cells produce.
- Retin-A works best when used in combination with alpha hydroxyacid preparations.
It's hardly the best-kept secret in the annals of medicine: Retin-A fights
wrinkles. If used over a period of years, tretinoin will continue to reverse
aging of the skin and can continue improving the skins appearance even
ten years after starting treatment.
- Today, adults have a Retin-A product of their own: a new, improved version
called Renova, reformulated in a moisturizing cream. It's the first
medicine ever approved by the FDA for the treatment of sun-damaged
skin. The active ingredient in Retin-A is tretinoin, a potent chemical derived
from vitamin A. It smoothes fine lines by acting on the cells of the dermas,
the lower layer of the skin. When damaged by the sun's ultraviolet A rays,
the dermas tends to shrink, which causes the outer layer to wrinkle.
- A study in the Archives of Dermatology, May 1996, shows that 0.1%
tretinoin significantly improves the appearance of early stretch
marks. Retin-A works best on stretch marks that are new or enlarging.
- Prescribing information, including contraindications on Retin-A can be found
at the manufacturing web site. Retin-A requires a prescription from a doctor
or Dermatologists. It cannot be sold over-the-counter.
